A design projects begins with the feasibility study. The
purpose of this phase is to achieve a set of useful solutions to the design
problem. Sometimes, a design group is assigned to a project for which a design
concept has already been fixed. In this case, the first step in the study
process is to demonstrate whether there is an original need, which was presumed
to be valid, thus indeed have current existence, or strong evidence of latest
existence. The next step is to explore the design problem and to identify
its elements such as, parameters, constraints and major design criteria. In the
next step, an effort is made to conceive a number of possible solutions.
Differences between Evolution and innovative design
Evolution Design
|
Innovative Design
|
This implies the traditional method of design in which the
objects and articles that we see around has taken its present form by gradual
change of time.
Each change was made to rectify
some defects or difficulties faced by the users.
|
Designs are made by innovation. That is developments of a
product by following scientific and purposeful effort. The designer’s task is
greatly magnified. He has to design and create something, which did not exist
yet. Here he tries to solve the design problem in a systematic and orderly
manner.
|
Did not consider the interdependence of products. They were
concerned about only one component /product.
|
The existence of one product is dependent on another in
some way or other.
|
Not necessity of analyzing complicated interaction of
components.

Designer’s task is limited because he has to solve and update
user’s problems of a product which is exists.

Traditional design methods cannot cope with competitive
requirements of the modern world.
|
Innovative design greatly accepted for competitive
requirements of modern world as developments of a product by following
scientific and purposeful effort
